APAS ANNUAL CONFERENCE

APAS hosts an annual conference in the first half of each calendar year which is open to both members and non-members. The conference incorporates a theme each year and traditionally covers a wide range of topics relevant to the surveying and spatial information community. APAS posts the reports and proceedings on our website on our Conference Resources page.

The first annual APAS conference took place in Port Macquarie in 1995, following the inaugural conference held a year earlier in Goulburn. From then on, it incorporated the annual Staff Surveyors Association (SSA) conference which started way back in 1921. In order to support the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) 24th International Congress in Sydney in 2010, APAS did not hold a conference that year.

GOVERNMENT SURVEYORS DINNER

The APAS calendar also includes a Government Surveyors Dinner in the second half of the year, including the Grant Kilpatrick Memorial Lecture.

  • 17th March - COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic Update

    Dear APAS2020 Delegates and Exhibitors,

    We note that it has been reported that the recently formed National Cabinet will be meeting this evening to consider recommendations coming from the meeting of the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee taking place today. We understand one issue being discussed is a ban on groups of more than 100 people in enclosed areas.

    If the ban is implemented it will directly impact APAS2020. We will monitor the situation closely and make further announcements as soon as possible.

    The APAS Committee would like to take this opportunity to thank our delegates and exhibitors for their patience and understanding at this time. We would also like to take this opportunity to remind our delegates that the APAS committee is a committee made up by your fellow surveyors, volunteering their time to organise this conference and that we are doing the best we can in an unprecedented situation. We are faced with making difficult decisions that may have serious follow-on consequences to everyone involved as well as the APAS organisation.

    We are relying upon advice from the medical and political leaders of both the State and Commonwealth to make these decisions and we are endeavouring to deliver up to date communications as frequently as possible in order for our delegates to have all necessary information at hand to base their own decisions on.

  • 16th March - COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic Update

    Dear APAS2020 Conference Delegates & Exhibitors,

    The APAS2020 Annual Conference will have 275 Delegates and Exhibitors in attendance. At this stage there has not been a directive from the NSW or Commonwealth Governments preventing conference with less than 500 attendees from going ahead. Until such a directive is issued APAS2020 will proceed as planned. As the situation stands, our refunds and cancellation policy outlined in the Registration Conditions applies and should you choose to cancel or not to attend the conference you will not receive a refund.

    In the event a NSW and/or Commonwealth Government directive is issued preventing APAS2020 from going ahead we will work with the venue and our service providers to determine what level of refund might be available, if any.

    Due to the impact of COVID-19 in Australia being expected to last up to and possibly beyond the end of the CPD calendar year we have decided that postponement of the conference is not an option.

    Importantly all attendees are reminded to strictly follow the guidelines provided by the NSW and Commonwealth Departments of Health. If you feel that you may have symptoms of COVID-19 or have been exposed to COVID-19, please do not attend the conference.

    All registered delegates will be kept fully up to date on any developments.

  • 12th March - COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic

    Dear APAS2020 Conference Delegates,

    We are very closely monitoring the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic and will put in place additional health and safety measures to minimise the risk of transmission. At this stage, we are satisfied that the APAS2020 conference can be delivered safely for all those taking part.  

    We are closely monitoring the advice from industry bodies such as Tourism Australia, Meetings and Events Australia and Professional Conference Organisers Australia. We will continue to follow the guidelines provided by the ​NSW and Commonwealth Departments of Health.

    We have received the following advice from the venue:

    Fairmont Resort & Spa Blue Mountains are doing everything they can to uphold their high standards to maintain a safe environment, with additional cleaning, disinfecting, and providing hand sanitisers to travellers coming through the hotel.  The hotel is undertaking the following measures to maintain a healthy environment:

    • Working with industry bodies Tourism Australia, the Tourism Transport Forum, State Tourism organisations and relevant accommodation bodies to ensure a coordinated approach.
    • Following the health guidelines provided the Department of Health.
    • Further reducing risk by exercising additional preventative measures as advised by Ecolab and Diversey, which includes, but is not limited to, increased frequency of cleaning and disinfecting throughout the hotel.
    • The hotel has increased their cleaning schedules in all public areas with a particular focus on hand railings, elevators, bathrooms and doors, using a suitable disinfectant.
    • Hand sanitiser and signs have been placed in all public areas for guests and visitors to use.
    • Reinforcement of team personal hygiene, proper handwashing and use of alcohol-based hand sanitisers.
    • Additional hand sanitiser provided in all back of house areas for teams.
    • Increased communication with our partners and government public health agencies.

APAS Past Events
